چکیده

The development of effective techniques for guiding pulsed terahertz radiation is essential for the continued development of terahertz spectroscopy and imaging applications based on the technique of time-domain spectroscopy. Terahertz surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) can be excited and guided on cylindrical metal wires with low loss and dispersion. This propagating surface wave, known as a Sommerfeld wave, possesses radial polarization, which is not well matched with conventional sources of pulsed terahertz radiation. A photoconductive terahertz antenna with radial symmetry produces radiation that more efficiently couples to the wire waveguide. At the end of the wire, terahertz SPPs emit radiation into free-space that exhibits frequency-dependent diffraction. To cite this article: J.A. Deibel et al., C. R. Simulation of Surface Plasmon Excitation in a Plasmonic Nano-Wire Using Surface Integral Equations

In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...

Control on Surface Plasmon Polaritons Propagation Properties by Continuously Moving a Nanoparticle along a Silver Nanowire Waveguide

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs)-based nanowire waveguides possess potential applications for nanophotonic circuits. Precise control on the propagation of SPPs in metal nanowires is thus of significant importance. In this work, we report the control on SPPs propagation properties by moving a silver nanoparticle (Ag NP) along a silver nanowire (Ag NW). The emission intensity at NP can be attenu...

Frequency-dependent circular-polarization of terahertz chiral spoof surface plasmon polariton on helically grooved metallic wire

Chiral spoof surface plasmon polaritons in the terahertz region, resulting from a coherent superposition of TM and HE modes, can be generated by normally exciting helically corrugated metal wire with a linearly polarized Gaussian light. The handedness of the chiral SPP depends on the handedness of the helical groove. The chirality of the surface wave causes a spiral spatial extent of average po...

Single-cycle surface plasmon polaritons on a bare metal wire excited by relativistic electrons

Terahertz (THz) pulses are applied in areas as diverse as materials science, communication and biosensing. Techniques for subwavelength concentration of THz pulses give access to a rapidly growing range of spatial scales and field intensities. Here we experimentally demonstrate a method to generate intense THz pulses on a metal wire, thereby introducing the possibility of wave-guiding and focus...

Long-range surface plasmon polaritons at THz frequencies in thin semiconductor layers

We present a theoretical investigation of THz long-range surface plasmon polaritons propagating on thin layers of InSb. The metallic behavior of doped semiconductors at THz frequencies allows the excitation of surface plasmon polaritons with propagation and confinement lengths that can be actively controlled. This control is achieved by acting on the free carrier density, which can be realized ...
